You tried to install Trend Micro Security on your Windows computer and received this error message:
"Installation Stopped. Free up some disk space."
Don't worry — this is easy to fix! You just need to clear some space on your hard drive, and you'll be back on track.
Why Did This Happen?
Trend Micro Security requires at least 1.3 GB of free disk space to install. If your computer's main drive (usually the C: drive) doesn't have enough room, the installer will stop and show this error.
How to Free Up Disk Space
Follow these steps to make room on your computer:
Option 1: Use Windows Disk Cleanup
- Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Disk Cleanup.
- Click Disk Cleanup from the search results.
- Select your main drive (usually C:) and click OK.
- Wait for Windows to calculate how much space you can free up.
- Check the boxes next to the file types you want to remove, such as:
- Temporary files
- Recycle Bin
- Thumbnails
- Downloaded Program Files
- Click OK, then click Delete Files to confirm.
🔔 Important Note: For even more space, click Clean up system files in the Disk Cleanup window. This lets you remove old Windows Update files and other system data.

Option 2: Quick Ways to Free Up Space
If Disk Cleanup isn't enough, try these additional tips:
- Empty your Recycle Bin — Right-click the Recycle Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycle Bin.
- Uninstall programs you don't use — Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove anything you no longer need.
- Move large files — Transfer big files (videos, photos, backups) to an external drive or cloud storage.
- Clear your Downloads folder — Open File Explorer > Downloads and delete files you no longer need.

Try Installing Again
Once you've freed up enough space:
- Make sure you have at least 1.3 GB of free space on your main drive.
To check: Open File Explorer, click This PC, and look at the available space on your C: drive. - Restart the Trend Micro installation.
