When you turn on Web Guard, your Internet goes through a secure VPN connection. On iPhones, especially with the latest iOS versions, the system may pause the VPN when your phone is idle or locked.

This might make it seem like your Internet is disconnected. In reality, your iPhone is still connected to the Internet in the background for things like push notifications and app updates. What happens is that the VPN connection stops while your phone is idle. This means that apps needing Web Guard’s protection may not work until you unlock your phone.

Once you wake your phone, the VPN connection starts again, and you can use the Internet as normal.

Key Things to Know:

  • This is normal behavior for iOS and how it manages VPN connections.
  • Your phone itself stays connected to the Internet while idle.
  • The pause affects only the secure VPN tunnel used by Web Guard.
  • Internet access through Web Guard returns as soon as your phone is active again.
