If you've noticed a Trend Micro component using a lot of CPU or memory in Task Manager, don't worry — this guide walks you through fixing it.

Why does this happen?

This usually means one of your Trend Micro components has become corrupted and isn't running efficiently. Reinstalling your Trend Micro program resets all components and typically resolves the issue.

How to Fix This

  1. Restart your computer. This alone often clears temporary high usage.

  2. If the issue continues, reinstall your Trend Micro program:

    1. Get a copy of your serial number.

    2. Check that your computer meets the minimum system requirements.

    3. Uninstall your current Trend Micro program.

    4. Go to https://account.trendlife.com/download.

    5. Enter your email address and password to sign in. You'll land on the Downloads section of your Trend Micro Account page.

    6. Click Download under your Trend Micro Security subscription.

    7. Click Download under Download to This Device. A new tab opens to download the installer.

    8. Double-click the downloaded file to run the installer. If User Account Control appears, click Yes.

    9. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    10. Fill out your account information to activate your protection.

  3. Once reinstalled, check Task Manager again to confirm CPU and memory usage have returned to normal. If it shows Protected and usage looks normal, you're all set! ✅

If the issue continues after reinstalling, contact Trend Micro Support.
