Why did this happen?

You received this notification to alert you to recently disclosed security vulnerabilities that may allow attackers to take full control of affected devices.

What is the issue?

Two security flaws were found that affect Apple devices:

  • The first vulnerability affects WebKit, Apple’s web rendering engine that powers Safari and other apps. An attacker could use a malicious website to execute commands on your device.
  • The second vulnerability affects the kernel, a core operating system component of Apple devices. An attacker could use a malicious app to gain complete control over your device.

What should I do next?

  1. Make sure that your devices are updated to the latest versions.

    • Here's how you can update your iPhone, iPad, and Mac:
      • iPhone and iPad
        1. Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi.
        2. Go to Settings > General, and then tap Software Update.
        3. Tap Download and Install.
        4. To update immediately, tap Install.
        5. If prompted, enter your passcode.

        1. From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, select System Preferences.
        2. Click Software Update.
        3. Click Update Now.
