You see these error messages when trying to update Windows 10 to Windows 11:
- "Windows needs more space."
- "Can't install due to low disk space."
- "Get more space with external storage."
- "There is not enough free space on the partition (C:)"
Why did this happen?
Your computer must have ate least 64 GB of free space to install Windows 11.
How do I fix this?
Regain Disk Space through these solutions:
Run Disk Cleanup
- On your keyboard, press the Windows and R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
- Type cleanmgr.msc, then click OK. The Disk Cleanup window should appear.
- Choose the C: drive, then click OK.
- Check the boxes for the file types that you want to delete, and then click OK.
- In the message that appears, click Delete files.
Uninstall Unused Apps
- Click the Start , then go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
- Select the program you are no longer using, then click Uninstall.
Delete Windows Temporary Files
- On your keyboard, press the Windows and R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
- Type %temp%, then click OK. This will open the Temporary Files folder where Windows is installed.
- Press CTRL and A keys at the same time to select all items, then press the DELETE key.
Delete Software Temporary Files
- On your keyboard, press the Windows and R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
- Type temp, then click OK. This will open the Temporary Files folder where Windows is installed.
- Press CTRL and A keys at the same time to select all items, then press the DELETE key.
