Why did this happen?

There is a recently reported security vulnerability affecting HP, Xerox, and Samsung printers. This vulnerability allows attackers to have administrative access to these printers.

What is the issue?

The printer driver SSPORT.SYS can be overrun by attackers and allow attackers to escalate user privileges. This driver is automatically installed with the printer software and is loaded by Windows after each system reboot.

What are its risks?

Attackers may install malicious programs that can give them the ability to view, modify, delete, or encrypt your data or create new accounts with unlimited user rights.
