You may notice that Antivirus One continues to show ‘Dangerous Notification Threats’ alerts even after all websites have been removed from Safari’s Website Settings and the Mac’s System Settings.

This guide explains why this happens and provides step-by-step instructions to resolve the issue, so the alerts no longer appear.

ℹ️ Why is this happening?

  • This issue is caused by upgrading from an older version of macOS to a newer one. On the previous macOS version, Safari stored website notification permissions in a system file called com.apple.ncprefs.plist. In the new macOS version, the system no longer uses this file to manage website notifications.
  • After the upgrade, the old notification permission records may remain in the plist file as leftover data. Even after the URLs are removed from the system, Antivirus One may continue to display warnings because the scan results are cached in the app’s database.

NOTE: This is a rare issue. It only affects users who upgraded macOS and previously allowed website notifications in Safari. New installations or users without prior notification history will usually not experience this problem.
