When opening Trend Micro VPN, Windows may ask you to choose a certificate every time. You might also see two or more certificate options, even though you already installed one.
Why is this happening?
- Your computer has extra, old, or invalid certificates saved in your personal certificate store.
- These unnecessary certificates confuse Windows, causing the “choose a certificate” message to appear repeatedly.
- This is a known Windows issue and can happen with other apps—not just Trend Micro.
How do I fix this?
STEP 1: Open the Certificate Manager:
- Press Windows key + R on your keyboard.
- Type certmgr.msc in the box, then press Enter.
- Go to Personal Certificates.
- In the window that opens, select Personal → Certificates on the left side.
STEP 2: Delete extra certificates:
- Look at all the certificates listed in the middle.
- Right-click each one, and choose Delete.
- These are unnecessary certificates that cause the pop-up.
STEP 3: Try opening Trend Micro VPN again:
- Open the Trend Micro VPN app.
- The choose a certificate pop-up message should no longer appear.
NOTE: If the issue continues, restart your computer and check again.
