You cannot use Universal Control on your Mac.

What is Universal Control?

Universal Control lets you share mouse and keyboard features between multiple Apple devices.

Why did this happen?

Your Apple device is not yet compatible with the feature.

What should I do next?

  • Check if your device is compatible:

Listed below are devices that supports Universal Control:

    • Mac
      • 2016 or later MacBook Pro
      • 2016 or later MacBook
      • 2018 or later MacBook Air
      • 2017 or later iMac
      • Late 2015 and later 27-inch iMac
      • iMac Pro
      • 2018 and later Mac mini
      • 2019 and later Mac Pro
    • iPad
      • iPad Pro
      • 3rd Generation and later iPad Air
      • 6th Generation and later iPad
      • 5th generation and later iPad mini
  • Sign in into iCloud with the same Apple ID:

Both devices must be signed in into the iCloud with the same Apple ID for this feature to work.

  • Place the devices close to each other:

Both devices must be close to each other so they can communicate better. Devices must be in range of 10 meters (30 feet) of each other.

  • Enable Bluethooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff:

Universal Control needed these three programs for it to work. Check the device’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi if they are turned ON.

    To enable Handoff:

    • On Mac:
      1. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > General.
      2. Check the box beside Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices below Recent Items.
    • On iPhone and iPad:
      1. Open Settings.
      2. Go to General > Airplay and Handoff.
      3. Turn on Handoff.
